PhD Program Approved
The Board of Regents of the University of Colorado has approved our proposal for a Ph.D. in Comparative Ethnic Studies! This is an exciting culmination to a long process, and the real work of implementing the program will begin shortly. But now is a time for celebration!
We want to express our sincerest thanks to Chancellor Phil DiStefano, Provost Russ Moore, Graduate School Dean John Stevenson, A&S Dean Steven Leigh, former A&S Dean Todd Gleeson, A&S Associate Dean Keith Maskus, the students in CUSG, and the faculty, staff, students, alumni and community supporters of the Department of Ethnic Studies for all of their hard work, guidance, and perseverance in getting us to this momentous point. We also want to thank the Regents for their recognition of the value that Ethnic Studies brings to the University of Colorado Boulder and their commitment to the values of diversity and inclusion that our doctoral program will embody.

About Us
The field of Ethnic Studies was born out of, and is dedicated to, struggles for social justice for all people. The Department of Ethnic Studies at the University of Colorado Boulder draws on this tradition of engaged scholarship to examine how race and the interrelated categories of ethnicity, gender, class, and sexuality impact the lives of people in the United States and around the globe.
Our interdisciplinary department offers an undergraduate major and minor, and a graduate certificate in comparative ethnic studies.
Our faculty members engage in a wide variety of research on the cultures, histories, epistemologies, and experiences of African American, Asian American, Chicana/o, and Native American peoples in the U.S. and beyond. Their research and teaching address these topics through critical, transnational, diasporic, decolonial feminist, queer, and comparative perspectives.
